04 THE FULL INSTALLATION PROCESS STEP BY STEP

PHASE 1 : PRE-JOB WALKTHROUGH & SITE PROTECTION

PHASE 4 : PAD & SITE PREP FOR NEW CONDENSER

PHASE 5 : NEW CONDENSER SET & INSPECTED
The new A5HP4030A1000A came off the truck crated. Before it moved toward the pad, the crate came off and the unit got inspected for any transit damage coil fin damage, refrigerant line damage, cabinet dents. A dented coil found before installation is a warranty claim. A dented coil found after installation is a problem. Once cleared, the condenser went on the pad, got bolted down, and the service valves stayed closed. The factory nitrogen charge stays sealed until the line set is ready.
PHASE 6 : NEW AIR HANDLER & HEAT STRIPS INSTALLED (INDOOR)
The new A5AHC003A1B30A air handler was positioned in the utility space in the same configuration as the old unit. The plenum connection was inspected the opening size relative to the new coil matters. Too large and air bypasses the coil, causing freeze-ups. Too small and you’ve got an airflow restriction that kills efficiency. The ductwork connections were inspected and sealed where needed. Any duct leaks in an attic or unconditioned space can waste 20-30% of system capacity before it ever reaches a room.

PHASE 8 : NITROGEN PURGE DURING BRAZING

When copper refrigerant lines are heated with a torch to braze a joint, oxygen inside the tubing reacts with the copper at temperatures above 500°F. The fix: while brazing, a steady low-pressure flow of dry nitrogen is pushed through the line. Nitrogen is inert it doesn’t react with copper at any temperature. PHASE 9 : ELECTRICAL & DISCONNECT WORK
The new system’s electrical requirements were verified against the existing panel capacity. A new weatherproof disconnect box was installed at the outdoor unit, along with a new flexible conduit whip sized to the condenser’s ampacity. PHASE 10 : SYSTEM EVACUATION
With the line set brazed, tested, and all connections made, the system was evacuated. A vacuum pump was connected to pull down the entire refrigerant circuit — line set, indoor coil, and connecting components. The target: 300 microns or lower, verified with a digital micron gauge (not a compound gauge, which isn’t accurate enough for a proper evacuation reading).
Once target vacuum was achieved, the system was isolated and the micron reading monitored. A rapid rise means a leak. A slow rise to a plateau means residual moisture — keep pulling. A hold at target means the system is clean, dry, and ready for refrigerant. On a clean new installation with fresh line sets, hitting target vacuum is straightforward.
